thanks yashar. i read the article and i think it was very interesting with some valid points. i agree than american style of democracy and capitalism is not the only way to progress but i don’t think that should stop us from criticizing china for its human rights violations. the right solution is usually somewhere in between.
i don’t think the main point was (at least my point wasn’t) that democracy and capitalism can be different than the american sort (also, china is not a democracy. but it has become capitalist). it was that this issue of tibetans’ persecution by the chinese government is a lot overblown and misrepresented, mainly due to the popularity of tibetan buddhism in the west. now this might also be wrong… god (or buddha) knows.
